Whats wrong with my toe?

My toe decides to swell up sometimes near the edge, far from the bone but next to the nail. Usually when this happens I just wait until it hurts so horribly i can stand it anymore then basically I squeeze the swollen portion of my toe until a thick whitish puss comes out of it. So I've gotten to the point where i can stand it anymore and im trying to squeeze it but all i got was blood, with the help from some nail clippers. Most of the time when this happens i have been wearing a few different types of shoes, from flats to chucks etc. I really want this pain to go away it hurts to walk and i walk/bike to work.
