Can I cut my kittens claws?

I got a kitten. Shes about 7 weeks old.. (Around There) and shes very playful, but its hard to play when she has super sharp nails, and I have two younger sisters who are afraid to get cut by them. Could I cut the cary tips of them off? Just a tiny tiny bit. I would take her to the vet but my dad said I could do it myself. I just wanted to make sure It was sanitary and such. She would be ok w/o them because shes in a safe environment with no other animals. So would it be ok ?She would still have claws, just not the tips. I would use regular nail clippers.
