How to get rid of a scar on my hand?

I had a splinter in the palm of my hand and i got it out, it was a tiny piece of wood. Now the scar wont go away and it hurts, whenever you push down on it, it hurts. I sometimes use a nail clipper to cut it down so it doesn't look as big. Maybe i cut in to deep when i was trying to get the piece of wood because it started bleeding after i was done. Should i try to cut it out, or let it heal? When i let it heal it gets bigger. What should i do?
